ABOUT DALLAS Convention Center

The Dallas Convention Center serves as a convention, civic, and event center for visitors and residents of Dallas, Texas. The oldest portion of the convention center, the Dallas Memorial Auditorium, was constructed in 1957. The facility was expanded in the 1970s, and the name changed to the Dallas Convention Center. Three additional expansions followed, one on 1984 and the second in 1994. The most recent expansion was in 2002.

The convention center is now more than 2 million square feet and is one of the largest facilities in the United States. This includes more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space. The Dallas Memorial Auditorium, the facility's original structure, is on the east side. This arena has 9,816 seats as well as a 1,740-seat theater, 105 meting rooms and two ballrooms. The Omni Dallas Hotel, which has 1,000 rooms, is also attached to the convention center.

For those attending events at the Dallas Convention Center, there are 1,200 park spaces located in two parking garages. These garages are below the main level of the convention center itself. In addition, there are two separate parking lots with more than 1,600 parking spaces. People with disabilities have designated parking spots in both of the parking garages and large vehicle parking, such as those for tractor-trailers, is available in the parking lots.

While many of the spaces in the convention center are geared toward conventions or conferences, there are plenty of opportunities to host smaller, more intimate events at the facility. Pioneer Plaza is located outside the convention center's main entrance, which is ideal for an outdoor event. The theater provides adequate space for a variety of different events from concerts and plays to business meetings. Perhaps the most well known space in the venue is the arena, which is geared toward conventions, auto and antique shows, large music events and rallies.

The convention center is consistently considered among the top facilities in the nation, winning The Best-Run Convention Center in America Award. It also has the designation of being the first convention center in the world to offer wireless Internet services for events and meetings.
